The Bayelsa Government has earmarked about eight billion naira to build ``new and befitting'' Primary Schools and to renovate existing Schools in all the Local Government Areas of the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson , Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the governor and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Yenagoa.

The statement said that Gov. Seriake Dickson announced the release of the fund in Yenagoa while inaugurating the chairmen and members of an eight-man task forces to assess Primary education infrastructure in the eight Local Government Areas of the state.

NAN reports that each of the eight councils in the state is to get a task force on the school project.

Dickson said the government had adopted a standard uniform plan for all Primary Schools in the state, stating that each of the Schools would be constructed with a two bedroom apartment as official residence for the headmaster.

The governor said his administration would provide free uniforms and books, including other learning materials for the pupils in line with the state's free education policy.

He said the inauguration of the task force had underscored the seriousness the government attached to the development of education and human capital.

Dickson said his administration had declared emergency in the education sector and introduced free and compulsory education from Primary to secondary school level to secure the future of the state.

He urged members of the task force to visit all nooks and crannies in their Local Government Areas and take video recording and photographs to enable the government assess the level of jobs to be done to revamp Schools in their areas.

He said that the report of the task force would enable government to commence the process of awarding contracts to firms for the construction and renovation of the Schools before resumption in September.

Responding on behalf of members of the task force, the Chairman of the task force from Ogbia Council, King Amalate Turner, expressed appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in them.

He assured that members of the task force would support the administration’s quest to reposition education in the state.
