The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has entered into partnership with the Exam Ethics Marshal International, towards a revolution that will enthrone adherence to Exam ethics and achievement of zero Exam malpractice.

The director-general of NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri, who made this known in Abuja revealed that tackling the challenges of Exam Malpractice was the collective responsibility of all stakeholders, since no one category of stakeholders, not even the government has the capacity to single handedly solve the problem.

He said: “Reports prepared by the Exam Ethics Project show that an average of 12 per cent of candidates who sit for Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations are involved in one form of examination Malpractice or the other.”

Omeri further stated that examination Malpractice has become a serious organised crime in the country, especially in some private schools that pride themselves as virtual magic centre.

He however blamed the crime on the gradual but constant erosion of Nigerians value as a people over the years. “Having elevated mundane pursuits, mediocrity and mere paper qualifications above other considerations, we have forced integrity, merit and hard work to resign to the back seat of affairs in our society.

For long, Nigerians have sacrificed what is right on the altar of selfish ambitions, hence the decay of the fabrics of the educational system,” he stated.

Canvassing punishment for parents who aid and abet their children or wards in examination malpractice, Omeri said that the act of supporting examination Malpractice should be viewed as a crime and be treated in the category of people who rope or took bribe.

According to him, the campaign which is aimed at raising integrity standards in the conduct of examinations in Nigeria is designed to be carried out nationwide in phases, with six states (one from each geo-political zone) chosen for the first phase.

The states include Kogi, Zamfara, Bauchi,Oyo, Edo and Anambra.

While urging all stakeholders to accord NOA and the EEMI all the necessary support whenever they come calling, Omeri assured Nigerians of victory over Exam Malpractice if only Nigerians, parents, teachers, examiners, invigilators, supervisors, institutions and most importantly individuals insist on doing the right thing; adding that true change begins with individuals resolve to act right.

On his part, the senate president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kolade Olaoluwa, said Exam Malpractice is not restricted to any region, it is all over now. That is why it is being taken up now as an issue through several collaborations, especially with the NOA.
