A cleric has appealed to Christians to resist attempts to retaliate serial bomb attacks on them and their places of worship in the North by suspected terrorists.
Pastor Claudius Meremu Sylva of National Evangelist of the World International Sacred Peace Movement (WISPM) advised Christians to leave vengeance for God.
Speaking yesterday during a service at the Port Harcourt branch of the church, Pastor Sylva said that for Christians to start preaching retaliation is to belittle themselves.
The cleric said: “All those perpetuating violence in the North must surely be made to pay for their activities. It is not the responsibility of a follower of Jesus Christ to pursue reprisal against the terrorists, as that is God’s responsibility.
“War will not solve war. If you go and retaliate, you do not know who you will kill. The best action is to pray for God to intervene in the matter.
“The World International Sacred Peace Movement cannot call for retaliation because if you choose to pursue vengeance, God will leave you to fight for yourself.”
He noted that the persecution and bombing of Christian places of worship in the North had received universal attention, adding that Christians all over the world are praying for God’s intervention in the violence.
Pastor Sylva, therefore, advised Christians to always pray for those in the North, saying: “No one can say he is a better Christian than those being killed every Sunday in that part of the country.”
