افتراضي A man Stabbed To Dath For Struggling With Okada

Bayo Ogunbamowo was not a tout, neither was he a ruffian. Rather, he was quiet, unassuming and believed in hard work. However, when death came calling last Saturday, it was a violent one. How did he meet such an end? Residents of Adedoyin Street, at the Palm Grove end of Shomolu Local Government were thrown into deep mourning when the news of the death of one of their own, Bayo Ogunbamowo, filtered into the area on Saturday, June 16, 2012. That Saturday afternoon, many shop owners that had opened For the day’s business hurriedly closed shops, while men and women were seen in groups discussing the shocking news that was brought into the community that day. Ogunbamowo, 25, actually fought hard to save his life but he was overpow-ered by the injuries sustained from an alleged knife attack. Those close to him claimed that Ogunbamowo was a hard working man who was always on the road in search For money to make ends meet. Once he returned home from his shop every day, Ogunbamowo always used his motorcycle For commercial pur-poses. Around 9:00 pm on Friday, June 15, 2012, Ogunbamowo, an indigene of Ijebu-Ife in Ijebu-Ife Local Government Area of Ogun State, reportedly returned home from work and mounted his oka-da, as he oft did. He was reported to have been called by an unknown man For a chattered trip to Mushin area. With the money offered quite mouth-watering, Ogunbamowo mounted his Okada and conveyed the man towards the designat-ed destination.

Around Ojuwoye market in Mushin, the unexpected happened. While Ogun-bamowo rode past the near deserted street, the man at the back of his Okada reportedly asked him to stop For him to adjust his flowing clothing. Just as Ogunbamowo halted his motorcycle, two other men reportedly joined the one that hired his Okada and pounced on his. They did everything to snatch his Okada from him. But Ogunbamowo would not relinquish his prized asset without a fight.
The three men reportedly turned Ogunbamowo to a punching bag, by raining heavy punches on him. When the men reportedly discovered that he was not ready to let go of his motorcycle, one of them reportedly drew a knife from his pocket and started stabbing him.
Ogunbamowo was reportedly Stabbed in several parts of his body. Ogunbamowo’s attackers were reported to be Okada rid-ers operating in the Mushin axis of the state. Apparently the high level of crime in Ojuwoye area prevented anyone from coming to Ogunbamowo’s rescue in spite of his cry from help. When he became weak and could not give a fight again, the attackers reported climbed on his Okada and sped off from the scene.
His mobile telephone handset and some money on him were reportedly made away With by the attackers. Reeling in the pool of his own blood, Ogunbamowo reportedly did not receive any help from the gathering bystand-ers, apparently taking him For a robber.
When help would not come from the peo-ple, Ogunbamowo reportedly crawled to a nearby police station but could not be attended to as the sole policemen he re-portedly met at the gate claimed he could not do anything to his blood-soaked body.
Still in great pains, Ogunbamowo found his way to Jibowu where he re-portedly slept at a motor pack when he could not explain his destination to night guards at the motor parks there. By 5:45 am, Ogunbamowo, who at that time, was extremely weak, got up and cross the rail line heading towards Mushin again.
Maybe he thought he could see his Okada on the way. That was not to be after all. He managed to get to nearby Olorunso-go Bus Stop in Mushin (beside AP Filling Station) where he collapsed beside a re-fuse dump.
Some minutes after 6:00am on Saturday, June 16, 2012, Ogunbamowo breathed his last. Even when he was dead at the initial stage, no one could come close to him For fear of being accused of being a mastermind of his death. Ogun-bamowo’s lifeless body remained by the refuse bin until midday. Everyone that walked past the refuse bin had stopped to have a glimpse of the lifeless body there.
Some minutes after midday, a neigh-bour of Ogunbamowo at Shomolu dropped at Olorunsogo Bus Stop to shop For some items. The woman also stretched her neck to see what the herd of people were gazing at. Lo and behold, the lifeless body turned out to be that of Ogunbamowo, With whom she lived on the same street.
The woman ran back home to alert the deceased’s family who rushed to the scene to retrieve his re-mains.
A report on the matter was reportedly lodged at Onipanu Police Station which gave the go-ahead For his remains to be taken to his native Ijebu-Ife in Ogun State. Ogunbamowo’s remains were committed to mother earth at Ijebu-Ife on Sunday, June 17, 2012.
Speaking to Saturday Mirror on the death of his cousin, one Akanji, who claimed that Ogunbamowo told people around him when he got the call For the chatter of his Okada, however, claimed that the perpetrators of the act appar-ently knew that he also had some money on him.
“I was watching a football match that day when I heard a woman neighbour screaming outside. I shouted back at the person close to the window that the woman should not disturb my peace, but I was told that Bayo’s lifeless body was lying on a street in Mushin.
By the time we rushed there, there was nothing we could do. He was long dead,” Akanji said. At the Olosan Police Station where Ogunbamowo reportedly first ran For help, a policeman who preferred ano-nymity told Saturday Mirror that no report of any injured attacker was re-ported that night.
He, however, claimed that the police-men at the station had had to battle With pickpockets and hoodlums who often en-gage in rivalry squabbles. “When we resumed work on Saturday morning, there was no record that any-one who sustained knife injuries was at the station. But you know Mushin is no-torious For inter-cult and union clashes.
So it is not enough For the police to just believe anyone that walked to it claim-ing that he had been robbed or attacked,” the policeman said
