Rural Schools In Abuja To Represent Nigeria In SAGE conference @ USA.Two schools, Junior Secondary School Jikwoyi and Government Secondary School Jibi, located in Abuja’s satellite towns are to Represent Nigeria at the 2012 edition of Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) World Cup billed to hold between July 24 and August 4 2012 in San Francisco, USA.

This follows their emergence as national winners out of the 23 teams that competed from 16 states of the country at the national competition which took place at the Tinapa Resort in Calabar on May 26.
At the national competition, GSS Jibi came first in the Social Enterprise Business category, the category for senior secondary schools, with a presentation on Shea butter production while JSS Jikwoyi came first in the Socially Responsible Business category, the category for junior secondary schools, with a presentation on phone repairs and maintenance, being the first business to introduce an online phone repair clinic.
Recall that both Schools came first and second at the 2009 SAGE World Cup which took place in Brazil.
The SAGE World Cup is an entrepreneurial competition open to secondary school students all over the world and is intended to create a generation of young entrepreneurial leaders whose innovations and social enterprises address the un-met needs of the global community.
Nigeria, represented by JSS Jikwoyi has won the competition for a record four times in the last five years, in Ukraine 2007; Abuja 2008; Brazil 2009 and USA 2011, consistently defeating teams from countries including the USA, Russia, China, Singapore, Canada, South Africa, Great Britain and Ghana amongst others.
Secretary, FCT education secretariat, Kabir Usman who presented the students to the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed yesterday, said the children through their entrepreneurial efforts had been able to make money for their respective schools, with JSS Jikwoyi posting a profit of N1.6 million in March 2012 and GSS Jibi posting profit of N293,000 from its Shea butter production enterprise.
He commended the minister for the support to the education sub-sector, which had resulted in the successes being celebrated and promised to do more to justify that support
On his part, the highly elated minister expressed happiness over the feat achieved by the students, noting that the programme was important as it would inculcate a sense of entrepreneurship in young people to make them self sustaining.
He pledged the support of the administration to ensure the delegation to San Francisco brings back the laurel for 2012.
