Primary School Pupils Recieves Award On Drawing By Korea, UBEB. The colourful event held at Korea cultural Center, Abuja, last Thursday, was graced by dignitaries from all spheres of life, who came in their numbers to see Art works displayed by Primary School Pupils in the 3rd Drawing competition Award ceremony among Federal Capital Territory (FCT) public Primary schools.
The Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Choi Jong Hyun, who expressed his appreciation of the works displayed by the pupils, lauded the effort of the FCT universal basic education for organsing such a successful competition. He also said Nigeria is a great country, even as he advised the children to be ambitious and set goals that would help them to develop in whatever career they choose.
“Aim high, think big and be ambitious. We are committed to working with all of you to get to a successful end”.
There were cultural performances by Korean cultural dance team to entertain the audience at the event.
In his remark, the director, UBEB, Mallam Adamu Jatau said the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Korean republic is significantly yielding a positive result in the area of youth empowerment.
He also said the event is in line with the new School curriculum which emphasizes that a child needs to graduate with a trade.
“I was made to understand that 350 Pupils selected across the six area councils of the FCT took part in this competition. I congratulate the children for a successful participation, even as I am encouraging the teachers to fullyparticipate in training other Arts teachers in our schools.’
According to the director of Korean cultural center, Jeong Sun, the programme is targeted at improving the skills of Nigerian students; many of whose love for art cannot be over emphasized.
‘The programme started in 2010 with some selected Primary schools in the country who came in to participate and also to an awareness of the Korean culture and relationship with Nigeria. We organised this cultural exchange programme for primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools every year, and we are also working closely with the Nigerian national art gallery.
The Art work was screened by National Gallery of Arts and UBEB. If you see the art works you would be amazed at what these children could do with their hands. I will like to thank all of you for your contribution, hoping that next year would be better.”
At the end of the competition, Isa Ibrahim went home with a flat screen Samsung TV set, while other Samsung consolation prices such as smart cameras were given to 29 Pupils drawn from various schools in the FCT.
These children are no doubt very good. This goes to show that they are true representatives of Nigerian society.
