A Draw Will be Okay in Malawi, Says Keshi - Brazil 2014

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi Wednesday said that a win or a Draw Will be a good result for Nigeria when they return to the battle line against the Flames of Malawi on Saturday.

The Eagles Will depart for Blantyre today by a charter flight with high hope to consolidate as the Group F leader in African World Cup 2014 qualifying following their 1-0 home win against Namibia last Sunday.

At the media parley held yesterday, Keshi said avoiding a defeat should be considered as a good result.

“A good result for us is definitely not to lose; we Will be happy to come out of Blantyre with a win or a Draw which Will consolidate our position as the group leader. We should be satisfied with any outcome like that,” he said.

Keshi also refused to be drawn into ego war with Malawi coach, Kinnah Phiri, who has promised to humiliate the Eagles on Saturday, after he described Nigeria as “a side living in the past”.

Rather the “Big Boss” said he expected the issue of supremacy to be decided on the pitch when the two sides meet in Blantyre.

While Nigerian officials are desperately gleaning for information on the present Malawi side which split the honours against Kenya in Nairobi last week, Keshi said the little knowledge he had seen of the Flames in the past when he led Mali against them at the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, should prove vital.

He said the Malawians are a physically strong side which likes to play the 4-4- 2 formation.

“I won’t tell you how I plan to approach the match but I have an idea of how they play and we are going to work on that. They are a physically strong side that likes to play the 4-4-2 formation. We hope to play 90 minutes of focused football and change a lot of things about us which I believe Will give us the edge we are looking for,” Keshi said.

He also doused concern that the afternoon fixture would impact the Eagles.

Weather, according to him would not be a challenge as it is slightly cold at this period of the year in Malawi which is in the southern hemisphere.

Keshi also allayed concern about the low scoring ratio of the Eagles under him. He said that the team has been goal shy because it is a team that is a work in session.

Meanwhile Ahmed Musa has said that playing on astro turf would not be a problem for him as he is used to playing on artificial pitch for his club in Russia.

The Malawi and Nigeria game Will be played on astro turf in Blantyre.
