The city of Calabar is agog as Nigeria’s Super Eagles clash with the Brave Warriors of Namibia today in a 2014 World Cup qualifier slated for U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar. This is the first round of games in a group, which also includes Kenya and Malawi.

It is expected that Nigeria will play with a lot of understanding after their head coach, Stephen Keshi, called up Glasgow Rangers’ winger, Sone Aluko to add up to Ahmed Musa, Sunday Mba, Ejike Uzoenyi and Henry Uche, who are capable of playing as wide men.

The only injury worry for Nigeria is the impressive Nnamdi Oduamadi, who is out with a muscle strain.

Keshi and his team have come under the heat after back-toback defeats to Peru and Egypt in friendly games.

As for the Brave Warriors, they made the trip to Nigeria without three of their key men, striker Henrico Botes, midfielder Manfred Starke and winger Lazarus Kaimbi, who is suspended.

The Brave Warriors rounded off their camping in Kaiserau, Germany with a goalless draw against Mozambique in a tuneup match.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), Chief Victor Rumson Baribote, has charged the home-based players that would be named in the Super Eagles’ squad against the Brave Warriors of Namibia today to make the most of the rare opportunity.

Baribote, who hailed Keshi’s visionary rebuilding process, noted that any home-based player called to duty for the Namibian challenge should grab the chance with both hands by proving that he is as good as the foreign-based players or even better.

“I expect any home-based player that is fielded in Sunday’s World Cup qualifier against Namibia to grab the rare opportunity with both hands and make the most out of it.

“It will be an opportunity for such home-based players to make a Nigeria Vs Namibia Match Result - 3rd June 2012d statement by putting up a five-star performance that will endear him to the technical crew of the Super Eagles and the entire Nigerians,” the NPL boss said.

Baribote reminded the homebased players to understand that their performance in the Match against the Namibians today could determine their future and the chances of other players in the domestic league in the national team.
