The Monarch of Iloko-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government area of Osun State, the Aloko, Oba Oladele Olashore, passed on yesterday in a London hospital

The departed royal father was the country’s Finance Minister under the Interim National Government of Chief Ernest Shonekan in 1993.

There was confusion in the sleepy community of Iloko-Ijesha yesterday as information filtered out of the Oba’s Iloko palace that he joined his ancestors in the early hours of Saturday. He was aged 77.

Sunday Mirror gathered that the death of the Monarch was conveyed to the state’s Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs , Barrister Kolapo Alimi by the chairman of the mon-arch’s local government, Hon Oluwole Ogunsemi who in turn conveyed the information to Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The Aloko of Iloko-Ijesa, Oba Oladele Olashore lived an exemplary life as he made inputs in the finance sector, political terrain, the education sector and ultimately in the traditional institution of Ijesa , Osun State.

He was born on Febru-ary 17, 1935 and ascended the throne of his fore-fathers 15 years ago. He attended Offa Grammar School in Kwara State be-tween 1951 and 1956, Col-lege of Administration, University of Ghana be-tween 1959 and 1961 and Leeds College of Com-merce, England, 1961-63.

He started his career as an Accountant with the British Petroleum Nigeria Limited between 1964 and 1967. He was Director Banking, Supervision and Chief Bank Examiner, Central Bank of Nigeria, 1967-80. He was also the Managing Director, Inter-national Bank for West Africa Ltd (now Mainstreet Bank) from 1980-84 and First Bank of Nigeria Ltd, 1984-87.

He was Chairman, Lead Merchant Bank Plc, Lagos; Chairman Board of Directors, Peak Merchant Bank Ltd and Proprietor, Olashore International School, Iloko-Ijesha. He founded the school in 1993 as a private, co-educational boarding school for 600 pupils

He was a fellow Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chattered As-sociation of Certified Ac-countants, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

He was also a member of Vision 2010 Committee, and served as the chair-man of G24 in Washington on behalf of the govern-ment.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo awarded him the Com-mander of the Order of Niger (CON) in 2002.

Olashore was also the MD/CEO of First Bank of Nigeria Plc and chairman, Olashore International Schools, Iloko-Ijesha.

He was known to be a stickler for discipline and he never believed in frivol-ities as his integrity mat-tered to him a great deal.
