In Jos 14 Soldiers Has Been Court Marshaled. Fourteen Soldiers of the Nigerian Army comprising two officers and 12 men have Been arraigned before a special military Court set up by the 3 Armoured Divisions, Maxwel Khobe Cantonment, Jos, Plateau State, for various offences.

The accused Soldiers are those of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Maiduguri, Borno State and the Special Task Force (STF) in Jos. The suspected Soldiers are arraigned on two count charge bordering on negligence and miscellaneous offences both punishable under section 62 (B) and section 58 of the Armed Forces Act CAP (A) 20 laws of the Federation 2004.

General Staff Officer, personnel service, Lt. Col. Stephen Andow, who presented the Soldiers before the Court during its inauguration, said: “All the accused Soldiers are those of the 3 Armoured Division serving in Maiduguri and Jos.”

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Armoured Division, Major General Jack Okechukwu Uwaogbo, while inaugurating the general Court marshal at the Rhino officer’s mess in Jos Monday, said, “The setting up of the general Court marshall was basically to try officers and men of the special task forces code named ‘operation safe haven’ in Jos and those of ‘operation restore order’ in Maiduguri.

“The action of the 3 Division in setting up the special Court is one of the procedures in the Nigerian army to right the wrongs of its members. This general Court marshall is meant to try the alleged members of the Nigerian army serving within the seven states of north east in the country.

“This is not to declare the accused persons guilty of the allegations, I am not in the position to declare them guilty, the accused are presumed innocent until the judgment of the general Court marshal.”

President of the general Court marshal, Brigadier General Ademoh Salihu promised to allow fair hearing and come up with an incorruptible judgment at the end of the trial. The prosecuting counsel is being led by Col. Adekunle Ariyibi of the Legal Department of 3 Division, while Mr. Agana Kitusu, Mr. James Attah and Mr. Pebi Dusu, were some of the counsel to the accused.
