Kwara Assembly Appoints New Principal Officers


After the resolution of alleged financial impropreity and high hanedness levelled against the Kwara House of Asembly Speaker, Rasak Atunwa, New Principal Officers have been appointed for the House.

The appointment is sequel to a letter sent by three stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and read on the floor of the House by the Speaker .

The New majority leader is Alhaji Abdul-kareem Abdul Ganiyu representing Share/Ode conmstituency who replaced Dr Abaraham Ashaolu representing Oke Ero constituency.

The New Deputy Majority Leader is Alhaji Saadu Yusuf Tanke from Ilorin South constituency who took over from Alhaji Abdul-Fatai Salman representing Ilorin North West constituency.

Alhaji Audu Liman Seidu from Edu Constituency was appointed Chief Whip to replace the suspended Alhaji Iliasu Ibrahim representing Ipaiye/ Oloru/Malete constituency.

The Speaker in his remark, praised the immediate past Majority Leader, Dr Abraham Ashaolu and the Deputy Majority Leader Alhaji AbdulFatai Salman for serving the House meritoriously.

Atunwa disclosed that there would be reorganisation of the House Committees to further ensure efficient service delivery.

In their respective remarks, the immediate past majority leader and deputy majority leader praised the PDP and the Speaker for the opportunity given to them to serve and promised to be committed and loyal members of the House.

Speaking under matter of urgent public importance, a member representing Essa/Shawo, Igbodun constituency, Alhaji Hasan Oyeleke called for urgent rehabilitation of Oyun water works to ease the plight of the people of Offa, Oyun and Irepodun Local Government Areas who are facing acute water problem.

Oyeleke, who observed that the water works established in 1956 and rehabilitated last in 1988, required urgent measure to reactivate the dam.

In his comment, a member representing Oke Ogun constituency, Barrister Kamaldeen Fagbemi noted that the equipment at the dam was now obsolete and called for prompt attention of the state government.

The Speaker while responding referred the matter to the House Committee on Agriculture and Water Resources to investigate and report to the House on 6 June
