In an effort to instill the right knowledge against the intake of hard substances and drug abuse amongst teenagers, a Corps member serving at Bell University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, Oluwamayokun Opatoye, has organised an advocacy campaign for students of Sango High School, Sango/Ota, Ogun State.

According to Opatoye, the advocacy campaign became necessary as the negative impact of drug abuse and other related cases are becoming rampant in the society.

She said: “I believe in impacting knowledge to younger folks as I believe that an informed mind stands a better chance of making informed decisions. That is the notion behind going from one school to the other for sensitization on the issue of substance and drug abuse amongst teenagers, which is becoming rampant in our society.”

The knowledge facilitator noted that the essence of the programme was to help the junior students become well informed about what drug abuse is; its effects on the individual and the consequences on our nation as a whole.

“In achieving our aim, the students were made to understand the examples of substances or drugs that can be abused as well as their local names. Emphasis was laid on the fact that it is better to say no to drugs than to try it once through songs and choruses.”

Meanwhile, appropriate answers were given to questions posed by the students on the theme and other related issues, even as the counsellor of the school, Mrs. Faka Ajayi, appreciated the initiative.

According to Ajayi, “this kind of initiative will go a long way in helping the students make better decisions now and in the future.”
