CBN Faults Plagiarism Reports On Sanusi.

THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has debunked Reports alleging that Governor of the apex bank, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, has been sued for Plagiarism by a United Sates based university lecturer.

According to recent media reports, a professor of Engineering and Technology, National University Sacramento, Victor E. Dike, has filed a law suit at an Abuja High Court through his lawyer accusing the CBN governor of plagiarism.

The US based professor alleged that Sanusi used some of his published articles without authorisation in papers that he (Sanusi) presented at various fora.

But a statement signed by the Director, Corporate Communications at the CBN, Ugochukwu Okoroafor, the regulator said it had not received any court papers with respect to the said suit.

The CBN stated that even though Sanusi presented the papers, the views contained in them were prepared by the banking watchdog’s research department.

According to the CBN, ‘For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that MallamSanusiLamidoSanusi did not write the said paper.

Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, just like Chief Executive Officers of similar institutions in Nigeria and abroad, deliver papers, not in their personal capacities, but on behalf of the institutions for which they are chief spokespersons.

In the case of the CBN, such papers, even though presented by the Governor, represent our collective views and are prepared by professional researchers in the relevant departments of the Bank.

We can vouch that such papers are prepared in line with strict global and ethical standards.’
While stressing its readiness to cooperate with the courts over the matter, the CBN pointed out that speeches delivered by Sanusi, ‘focus on the core mandates of the Bank and are direct contributions to discourse on national development.’
