Senegal football federation (FSF) announced on Tuesday it had sacked national team Coach Joseph Koto for failing to achieve his major objective of qualifying the outfit to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

His assistant Karim Sega Diouf, a Senegalese like Koto, was also fired by the body after a lengthy meeting in Dakar on Tuesday evening.

Their dismissal comes 10 days after Senegal’s chaotic elimination from the 2013 Afcon qualifying campaign by 2012 finalists Cote D’Ivoire on a 6-2 aggregate.

“The Senegal football federation executive committee, after reviewing the situation and examining submitted reports, has decided to take certain actions which consist of the termination of the appointment of the technical staff,” the FSF president Augustin Senghor told reporters.

“Head Coach Joseph Koto and assistant Karim Sega Diouf were hired to meet some precise objectives which were not met. Koto began very well and did his work with diligence but unfortunately coaches are judged not by their talent and experience but by results,” he said.

Koto came on board after the sacking of 2012 Afcon Coach Amara Traore and the withdrawal of Frenchman Pierre Lechantre.

The October 13 Afcon qualifier between the Teranga Lions and the Elephants was abandoned in the last quarter after it was disrupted by the throwing of bottles, stones and firecrackers and setting of Fires in the stands by frustrated local fans.

Cote D’Ivoire were leading 2-0, scored by skipper Didier Drogba, which was later confirmed by Caf after the disqualification of Senegal.
