Vodacom has offered customers the cheapest rate in South Africa to make calls at anytime to 52 international destinations from their cellphone for only 89 cents per minute.

This promotion will run from 21 October to 31 December 2012.

Calls made at the promotional rate are also charged on a per second basis from the first second.

To sign up for this promotion all customers can dial *111#; or contract customers can SMS ‘World’ to 123 while Prepaid and Top Up customers can SMS ‘World’ to 100."

A Vodacom spokesperson told News24 it's too early to comment on the uptake of the promotion since the promotion only launched on Sunday.

Vodacom also didn't want to comment if the promotion would run annually.

"It’s too early to say. We always review our promotions and look for ways of providing attractive value offers which will make it even more affordable for our customers to stay in touch with family and friends," the spokesperson said.

A R5 monthly fee will be charged to opt-in to this promotional rate.

You can opt out of the promotion at any time by dialing *111#.

International Calling

With Vodacom’s International Calling service, you can call friends, family and colleagues who are overseas directly from your Vodacom cellphone in South Africa.

Frequent callers - 89c Promotion
As a frequent caller, you can get the cheapest rate in South Africa to make calls at anytime to 52 international destinations from your cellphone for only 89 cents per minute from 21 October to 31 December 2012. Calls made at the promotional rate are also charged on a per second basis from the first second.

The 52 destinations which are included in the promotion is as follows:

To make international calls for only 89c cents per minute and save up to 80% on the standard rates, all you have to do is opt in to the promotion by:

Dialling *111# and navigating the menu
Or Contract customers can SMS “World” to 123 while Prepaid and Top Up customers can SMS “World” to 100. You will be charged a R5 recurring monthly fee once opted in to the promotion.


You can opt out of the promotion at any time by dialing *111# and navigating the menu, or Contract customers can SMS “World Stop” to 123 while Prepaid and Top Up customers can SMS “World Stop” to 100.

Opting out is free and the R5 monthly fee will not be charged from the month after you have opted out.

How do I make International calls?
1. Making sure the service is active

Contract customers
To check if your International Calling service is active, please dial *#331#

If you need to activate the International Calling service please contact you service provider:

Vodacom Customer Care - 082 111 (Individual) or 082 1940 (Corporate)
Autopage Cellular - 0860 23 24 24
Nashua Mobile - 0861 412 412

Prepaid and Top Up customers
The International Calling service is enabled by default and there is no need to activate the service. You can make international calls immediately provided that you have enough airtime.

Once you have ensured that the International Calling service has been activated, you can then opt in to the 89c promotion if you are a frequent caller.

2. Dialling internationally
Enter the International Access Code. You can use either 00 or +
Add the code of the country you would like to call. Every country has a country code which you enter after the International Access Code. Example: The country code for the UK is 44.
Add the phone number of the person you are Calling and dial. If you are dialling a landline, you will need to enter the area code first, followed by the phone number. Example: The area code for fixed lines in Manchester is (0)161.

An example of how to dial an international number is shown below:
00 44 161 xxx xxxx or + 44 161 xxx xxxx

If you are dialling a cellphone number, you will need to enter the entire number. Example: 00 44 xxx xxx xxxx

Standard International Calling rates apply when you make an international call from your cellphone. Calls made at the standard rate are charged on a per minute basis at the rates shown below.
