MTN Zambia chief executive officer Abdul Ismail says the company will continue to provide affordable and quality telecommunications products and services to remain relevant in the country's communication industry.

Mr Ismail was speaking in Lusaka yesterday when he launched a K3.6 billion, 90 days of Yellow Christmas promotion which would see MTN subscribers stand a chance to win a Toyota Corolla every day, ZANIS Reports.

He said the initiative was aimed at appreciating the company's customers by changing their lives.

He said the promotion was one of the company's social cooperate responsibility programmes.

Mr Ismail said the firm had made significant growth with more than three million customers by the end of June this year and that it challenged itself to finding solutions by taking a dynamic approach to business and making things better for the community.

The promotion which opened to MTN subscribers yesterday would run up to January 7, 2013.

And MTN Zambia has awarded a female engineering University of promotionZambia (UNZA) student K5 million for the best female graduating telecommunication student, reports Perpetual Sichikwenkwe.

Mr Ismail awarded Patience Banda for the 2011/2012 academic year under the education partnership for Africa initiative.

The award is meant to inspire and encourage young girls in schools to take up engineering courses and for them to excel in the traditionally male dominated field.

Mr Ismail said MTN would continue to be relevant to stakeholders by embarking on sustainable projects that made a positive difference in their lives.

He commended UNZA for initiating the education partnership for Africa in Zambia and congratulated Ms Banda for the hard work and well deserved award.

He said under the partnership which started this year, MTN Zambia awarded the best first year female student in electrical engineering with K15 million.

UNZA of Zambia, head of civil and environmental engineering Edwin Nyirenda and Ms Banda thanked MTN-Zambia for the gesture.
