Gombe State Government has evacuated 360 of its citizens studying in various institutions in Mubi, Adamawa, following an attack by gunmen on the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, in which some 25 people students were killed on Tuesday.

The students, accompanied by policemen, arrived at the Ministry for Higher Education headquarters, Gombe, on Thursday.

They later left for their various local government areas in company of their parents and guardians.

The President of Gombe State students Association, Federal Polytechnic Mubi chapter, Mr Emmanuel Abel, told NAN that problem started 10 p.m. on October 1.

He said students were reading in the classrooms when they heard gunshots at students off-Campus Villa (Hostel) in Tudun Wada area of the town.

Abel added that two students of Gombe State origin were among the dead, adding that one sustained serious injuries.

He described the incident as unfortunate, wondering why the perpetrators could go to institutions of higher learning to kill helpless and innocent students.

The student leader called on the Federal Government to take measures to end the violence in the north-eastern part of the country to guarantee peace and a conducive learning environment for the students.

"I am calling on individuals to return to God and keep on praying because the Federal Government only cannot ensure security.

"What our eyes saw, it is only God that can intervene in this issue," he said.

Abel commended Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo for showing concern for students’ welfare by giving the directive for quick evacuation of the students.

He also praised the governor for demonstrating similar action when students from the state encountered problems in Damaturu, Yobe and Maiduguri, Borno respectively.

Three other students, Matthew Ilifu, Dije Mamman and Albert Samuel, who also narrated their experiences during the attack, in separate interviews with NAN, urged the government to find lasting solution to the security challenges in the country.
