The chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, Dr Sam Amadi has donated Books written by Nigerians to 18 University across the country.

He acknowledged that one of the ways in which people of this country could help in strengthening the growth of the learning sector was to have individuals support the institutions through financial Donation or books.

The Universities that are recipients of the five of the Books each are Abia State University; Anambra State University; Caritas University, Enugu; Ebonyi State University; Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu; Evangel University, Ebonyi; federal University of Technology Ebonyi; Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu and Gregory University, Abia.

Others include; Imo State University, Imo; Madonna University, Okija, Anambra; Michael Okpara Federal University of Agriculture, Anambra; Nnamdi Azikwe University, Anambra; Paul University, Anambra; Renaissance University, Enugu; Tansian University, Anambra and university of Nigeria, Nsuka, Enugu whilst he gave 10 Books to the National Universities Commission, NUC which received the Books on behalf of the institutions for onwards distribution to them.

According to Dr Amadi, “The Faculty of Law, Social Science and Arts/Humanity are to have one each of the five Books while the universities’ libraries are to have two copies each”.

“To increase the social intelligence of students in the Nigerian universities, we will focus on Books written by Nigerians which is why l am donating this book authored by Chido Onumah, a Pan-Africa activist and coordinator of Abuja-based African Centre for Media & Information Literacy titled, Time to Reclaim Nigerian: Essay 2001 – 2011”

“From the research carried out by NERC, we understand that only Nigerian scholars can help this country to address its problem”

He remarked that Nigerians could dedicate their time in helping to remedy some of the problems in the system rather than spent ample time to complain and condemn the system.

While commending Dr Amadi, NUC Executive Secretary, Prof Julius Okojie, admitted that the country was still grasping with the problem of writing even among professors adding that the reading culture had still not improved.

He recalled that a member of the National Assembly once made similar Donation months back whilst appreciating the contributions of individual Nigerians to the development of education in the country.
