افتراضي South East Insists On Igbo Presidency on 2015.

Prominent Igbo politicians, on the aegis of the South East Forum (SEF) yesterday ended their one-day meeting in Enugu with a declaration that it is the turn of the zone to produce a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction in 2015. The forum, made up of notable politicians from the South East geo political zone, said its mission is to rebuild a collective sense of historic destiny, as well as erect the base of a platform which can formulate and project Igbo group position strictly from the viewpoint of South East zonal interest.

Speaking during the formal launching of the organization's constitution, its national chairman, Dr. Ezekiel Izuogu, said SEF was born with a view to providing the South East zone a platform through which the people could always organize themselves and present a formidable front in negotiating with political power brokers and office seekers.

Izuogu, who insisted that it was time for the South East zone to occupy the nation's number one seat by 2015, also said the Igbos are tired of being campaign managers and national coordinators for presidential candidates from other geo political zones.

He said the people of the South East "have scratched the back of others long enough, and for the sake of justice in our country it is time for others to scratch the Igbo back." Izuogu said the group supports "the government of president Jonathan and we pray for him to succeed , but we also support the emergence of a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction come 2015, and these two are not mutually exclusive."

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, corroborated the position of Izuogu, insisting that it was time for Ndigbo to rise up and take their destiny in their hands, because they have played enough second fiddle in Nigeria. Nwodo, regretted that since the nation's independence and over 40 years after the Nigerian-Biafran civil war, the people of South East are still facing perpetual neglect and marginalization by the federal government.
