Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, reiterated his administration’s commitment to boosting infrastructural renewal and service delivery to the people of the state even as he clarified that the road traffic law was not meant to send people to jail but to serve as a corrective measure.

Fashola said this at the Lagos West Senatorial District Town Hall Forum held at Ikotun Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Secretariat, as part of activities to mark his 1,900 days in office. The state Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, who led other commissioners and Special Advisers, spoke on behalf of the governor at the event which was held simultaneously at two other senatorial districts comprising of the East and central.

Bello, while responding to various questions posed by residents, who expressed worry over peculiar plights confronting their environment, assured that the present administration has declared zero tolerance over abandoned projects, saying no projects would be left uncompleted before the termination date.
Where construction work was being delayed, Bello explained that in most cases, it could be as a result of technical reasons and should be considered as abandoned job.

He disclosed that the state government had issued a stern warning to all contractors against any shoddy or abandoned job adding that any contractor found wanting would be severely punished accordingly.

On the road traffic law, the Special Adviser to the governor on Environment, Mr. TaAofeek Folami, maintained that the law was in the interest of the public while responding to a question raised by concerned residents who described the road traffic law as “obnoxious”. He said the state government is not interested in sending people to jail over the new traffic law and other bills that were signed into law recently.
