افتراضي Owo Polytechnic Student, 28 Others Arrested For Hard Drugs

A self-acclaimed student of Owo Polytechnic, Mr. Henry Joseph has been Arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA in Abuja, the federal capital territory For allegedly being in possession of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp otherwise called cannabis sativa.

Henry 30, was said to have been Arrested along Lokoja-Abuja road with the weeds weighing 107.4kg. Also Arrested was a correspondence student with American hotel education Institute who identified himself as Mr. Charles Babalola. He is 23 and hails from Ibadan, Oyo state.

FCT commander of the agency, Mr. Obiefulei Dennis also said 28 other drug offenders were Arrested in the month of July 2012 alone. He disclosed this while presenting his score card For the month in review. He said a total of 29 suspects comprising 24 males and 5 females were apprehended while a total of 169.06kg of illicit Drugs were seized.

This comprises 166.523kg of cannabis, 2.4gm of cocaine and 2.3kg psychotropic substances. The commander emphasized the determination of the FCT command to tackle these agents of wares of destruction with a view to grounding their activities.The FCT command, he said will not allow Drug traffickers infiltrate the Federal capital. He noted that the Command’s stop and search strategy has been beefed up with many attendant successes.

Mr, Henry Joseph hails from Ndukwa West LGA of Delta state. He has completed his Ordinary National Diploma and is waiting For admission into the Higher National Diploma cadre at Owo polytechnic. He said he regrets his actions and blamed it on hardship.

Reacting to the arrest of Henry Joseph, the Director general/secretary of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr. Femi Ajayi applauded the efforts of the FCT command of the Agency. He said NDLEA if equipped with the needed financial and logistic assistance is proper positioned to contribute significantly to the efforts of the Federal Government to reduce insecurity and terrorism in the Country.

He lamented that NDLEA has committed officers and men to prosecute its mandate but lacked adequate funding. He appealed to all Nigerians to contribute to the agency’s efforts aimed at reducing the level of insecurity in the country. Mr. Ajayi therefore, enjoined the youth to shun all forms of illegality and embrace dignity and Hard work which would bring about pleasant reward.
