Super Eagles manager, Stephen Keshi has reacted to media reports credited to former Dream Team goalkeeper Emmanuel Babayaro that the non invitation of Mikel Obi and Osaze Odemwingie in recent matches is an indication that the coach was afraid of the influence of the duo in the team.

Keshi who returned to Nigeria on Monday after a short holiday in USA to begin preparation for the August 15 international friendly away to Niger Republic wondered why anyone could decide to play up an imaginary music of discord in the national team at this point in time.

Keshi told Complete Sports that it was not true that he is afraid of the duo of Mikel and Osaze.

He rubbished the insinuation that it was because of his fear for the influence of the two players that accounted his refusal to include them in his national team rebuilding plan.

The former Togo and Mali national teams coach added that he bears no malice against the two English Premier League big boys

“It’s rather unfortunate for someone to wake up and say I am afraid of players in my team. How can I be afraid of Mikel and Osaze when I have handled bigger players like (Fredick) Kanoute and (Seydou) Keita in Mali and Emmanuel Adebayo in Togo?”, Keshi fumed.

“I played this game to the highest level and won several trophies with clubs and national the team so why should I shiver for my own players?

“I think some-one just wants to be relevant and he felt the only way to do that is to say something about Keshi. But he would be disappointed because I am not ready to trade words with him and the players in question are always in contact with me and they know when I need them”, he stated

On his plan for Liberia, Keshi stated that the match against Niger would help to knock the home boys into shape before the coming of the foreign based players for the crucial game against Liberia, adding that he cannot afford to lose in Monrovia.

Asked if Mikel and Nosa Igiebor would be making a return to the Eagles next month, ahead of the final AFCON qualifier against Liberia, Keshi stated that it was too early to say who among the foreign based players would be invited.

The man called Big Boss quickly added: “If they are in good shape and healthy why not”, he concluded.
