Owners of Private educational institutions across the country have appealed to the federal government to capture them in its annual budgetary allocations because of their critical role of empowering youths through education.

The President of African Thinkers Community of Inquiry College of Education Enugu, Rev. Fr. Prof Stan Ani, made the call weekend at a youth empowerment workshop organized for his students.

Anih, whose speech was delivered by the provost of the institution, Dr. Emeka Igwe, explained that Private schools globally always enjoyed government training Grants and other supports which enable them to effectively continue to partner with government in their educational transformation agenda.

He stated that an annual training grant From the government would bring great relief to proprietors as the cost of providing quality education was becoming more capital intensive each day.

Anih restated his determination to train young graduands who would change the face of the Nigerian economy with knowledge and entrepreneurial skills.

In a paper entitled, “Youth Educational Empowerment Through Global Thinking Concepts,” a renowned scholar, Igwe stressed that the era of godfatherism as a means of survival in African states had gone, adding that the need for self actualization was now the propelling factor that should ordinarily push man to genuinely strive for success.

He stated that commitment to vision enhances the level of performance and must be deeper than lip service, saying, “We must, indeed, say and believe that we are, before expecting someone to acknowledge that.”

He averred that there was need for Nigerian youths to imbibe what he described as, “the habit of emulating some of our elders and role models who had made giant strides in their various fields of endeavour.”

Igwe challenged them to develop and free themselves From ignorance and show-case their abundant talents, good qualities and other virtues in order to move forward.

The renowned scholar cautioned the youths to avoid cultism, armed robbery, exam malpractices, political thuggery and prostitution.

Also speaking, the executive director, Poverty In Africa Alternative, POVINAA, Mr. Nebechi Ugwuozor, explained that his organization in collaboration with the Direct Actions for African Development, DAPAD, Foundation of Japan, had designed the Youth –to Youth Dialogue Outreach Programme, as a special advocacy intervention exercise to enable young people to discuss the challenges confronting them, while gaining useful insights From the views expressed by their mentors.

Ugwuozor stated that POVINAA and its international partners, DAPAD Foundation of Japan, had long realised the importance of raising a critical mass of educated and competent young Africans in diverse fields of endevours, who would be in the vanguard of Africa’s transformation From poverty to prosperity, a mission statement, also being held by the African Union on Youth of Africa,
